Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric serum protein comprising about half of total blood serum protein. It primarily functions as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps maintain extracellular fluid balance.
Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated protein (~65 kDa), synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin. After cleavage of the N-terminal peptide in the endoplasmic reticulum, proalbumin is processed in the Golgi to yield the secreted form of albumin.
