Target Information
Prohibitin is encoded by an evolutionarily conserved gene expressed ubiquitously. It functions as a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may act as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in PHB have been linked to sporadic breast cancer. Two transcripts exist with varying 3′ untranslated region lengths; the longer transcript is more abundant in proliferating tissues and may serve as a trans-acting regulatory RNA.
