Target Information
Action potentials in vertebrate neurons are followed by an afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that may persist for several seconds and influence neuronal firing patterns. Each component of AHP is mediated by distinct calcium-activated potassium channels. KCNN3, a member of the KCNN family, encodes a protein that contributes to the slow component of synaptic AHP, regulating neuronal excitability. The encoded protein forms a voltage-independent calcium-activated channel with calmodulin-binding subunits.
