Target Information

Early endosomal antigen 1 (EEA1) is a 162 kDa membrane-bound protein specific to the early endosome, essential for fusion between early endocytic vesicles.
Early endosomes fuse with endocytic vesicles to redistribute extracellular compounds to alternate destinations.
EEA1 contains zinc-finger-like domains in both amino and carboxyl-terminal regions, similar to those found in nucleic acid binding proteins.
The carboxyl-terminal zinc-finger-like domain is conserved among several non-nuclear proteins involved in intracellular trafficking and is an authentic zinc-binding domain critical for intracellular localization.
Membrane association of EEA1 depends on phosphatidyl 3-kinase activity; inhibitors cause EEA1 to dissociate from early endosomes.
