Target Information
MHC class II molecules are heterodimers composed of non-covalently associated alpha (31–34 kDa) and beta (26–29 kDa) chains.
Antigen presentation by MHC class II involves two processes:
- Endocytosed antigens are degraded into peptides by lysosomal proteases.
- Class II molecules, initially bound to invariant chain (Ii), acquire peptide-binding capacity after Ii degradation in peptide-containing compartments.
MHC class II molecules present exogenous antigens to CD4⁺ T lymphocytes (typically T helper cells).
CD4 interacts with non-polymorphic residues of MHC class II.
HLA and MHC antibodies are essential in Immunopeptidomics, enabling identification and characterization of neoantigens using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry.
