MC1R (Melanocortin 1 Receptor)는 멜라노사이트 자극 호르몬(MSH)과 부신피질자극호르몬(ACTH)의 효과를 매개하는 수용체입니다. MSH와 MC1R은 멜라닌 생합성의 주요 조절자로서, 피부에서 적색의 페오멜라닌과 흑색의 유멜라닌 비율을 조절합니다. 기능이 결여된 수용체는 밝은 털색을, 지속적으로 활성화된 수용체는 어두운 색을 유도합니다.
