GPT (Glutamate-pyruvate transaminase), also known as alanine aminotransferase, catalyzes the reversible conversion of L-alanine and α-ketoglutarate to L-glutamate and pyruvate.
This protein has two distinct molecular and genetic forms:
- GPT1: Cytoplasmic (soluble)
- GPT2: Mitochondrial
