Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme located in peroxisomes. It catalyzes the conversion of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase contains a C-terminal -KANL sequence for peroxisome targeting, with a monomer size of approximately 61.3 kDa.
Catalase plays roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor development.
Deficiency leads to acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
