Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

The kinesins constitute a large family of microtubule-dependent motor proteins responsible for distributing organelles, vesicles, and macromolecular complexes throughout the cell. Individual kinesin members play crucial roles in cell division, intracellular transport, and membrane trafficking, including endocytosis and transcytosis.

Members of the heterotrimeric kinesin II family generally contain two different motor subunits from the KIF3 family (KIF3A, KIF3B, KIF3C). KIF3 isoforms mediate anterograde transport of membrane-bound organelles in neurons and melanosomes, as well as transport between the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, and within cilia and flagella for morphogenesis.

KIF3A may influence neurogenesis during embryonic development, especially in left-right axis determination. Loss of KIF3A function in mouse photoreceptors leads to apoptotic cell death, indicating that kinesin II-mediated transport is essential for proper cell fate.
