Neuregulin 1 (NRG1)는 NEU/ERBB2 수용성 티로신 키나아제와 상호작용하여 인산화를 증가시키는 44-kDa 당단백질로 처음 확인되었습니다. NRG1 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 아이소폼을 생성하며, 여기에는 Heregulins (HRGs), Glial Growth Factors (GGFs), Sensory and Motor Neuron-Derived Factor (SMDF) 등이 포함됩니다. 이들은 조직 특이적으로 발현되며 구조적으로 차이를 보입니다. HRG 아이소폼은 Ig 및 EGF-like 도메인을, GGF 및 GGF2는 Kringle-like, Ig, EGF-like 도메인을 포함합니다. SMDF는 EGF-like 도메인만을 공유합니다.
NRG1의 모든 아이소폼은 ERBB 계열의 티로신 키나아제 수용체와 결합하여 상피, 신경, 교세포 등 다양한 세포의 성장과 분화를 유도합니다.
