포유류의 GCAP 단백질은 201~205개의 아미노산으로 구성되며, 3개의 보존된 Ca²⁺ 결합 부위를 포함합니다.
GUCA1A 유전자(GCAP1)는 망막에서만 발현되는 1.7 kb mRNA를 암호화합니다.
GUCA1A 유전자의 특정 변이(예: Tyr99Cys, Pro50Leu)는 망막 변성 질환과 연관되어 있으며, 단백질 안정성과 효소 활성에 영향을 미칩니다.
