Target Information
MEK1 (Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1) catalyzes the phosphorylation of threonine and tyrosine residues in the Thr-Glu-Tyr sequence of MAP kinases, activating ERK1 and ERK2.
MEK2 (MAPKK2) also activates ERK1/2 by phosphorylating residues within the TEY motif.
Both MEK1 and MEK2 undergo dual phosphorylation on serine 218 and 222 in their activation loop.
Threonine 292 of MEK1 is phosphorylated by ERK2, providing a negative feedback mechanism that suppresses MEK1 activation.
