Product Specific Information

1 µg/mL of MA5-27633 was sufficient for detection of Shank1–4 in 10 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 160 kDa. Recognizes Shank1, Shank2, and Shank3.


Target Information

Shank proteins are a family of scaffold proteins involved in interactions with various membrane and cytoplasmic proteins. They are localized at postsynaptic sites of excitatory synapses and play key roles in signal transmission within postsynaptic neurons.
Studies suggest that Shank2 is expressed in developing retinal neurons and may contribute to neuronal differentiation. Disruption of glutamate receptors at the Shank postsynaptic platform has been implicated in postsynaptic density degradation, leading to synaptic dysfunction and loss in Alzheimer’s disease.
