Product Specific Information

Antibody detects endogenous levels of MKNK2 only when phosphorylated at Thr249.


Target Information

The MAP kinase-interacting kinases (MKNK1 and MKNK2) are activated by MAP kinases and regulate protein synthesis through phosphorylation of eIF4E on Ser209. They may contribute to tumorigenesis. Overexpression of Mnk2 increases phosphorylation of endogenous eIF-4E, indicating its role as an eIF-4E kinase in vivo. Mnk2 may also play a role in responses to environmental stress and cytokines. Expression of active MNK1 and MNK2 mutants in 293 cells reduces cap-dependent translation relative to cap-independent translation. Human Mnk2 shows high homology to murine Mnk2 (94%) and human Mnk1 (71%). In vitro studies demonstrate that Mnk2 is a better substrate for Erk2, p38MAPKα, and p38MAPKβ compared to Mnk1.
