Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. It is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays a critical role in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility, immune response, and tissue repair. Acting downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, its main physiological target is the S6 ribosomal protein, which promotes protein synthesis. Overexpression and gene amplification of p70 S6 kinase have been observed in certain breast cancer cell lines.
