Target Information
MAP3K9 (MLK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that functions in the MAP kinase pathway. It plays an important role in cellular responses to environmental changes. Once activated, MLK1 acts as an upstream activator of the MKK/JNK signal transduction cascade through phosphorylation of MAP2K4/MKK4 and MAP2K7/MKK7, which in turn activate JNKs. This signaling pathway regulates stress responses via transcription factors such as JUN and GATA4. MLK1 also participates in mitochondrial death signaling, including cytochrome c release leading to apoptosis.
