Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by epitope-specific affinity chromatography. Purity is >95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

GAD-65 and GAD-67, glutamate decarboxylases, catalyze the production of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). In the central nervous system, GABA functions as the main inhibitory neurotransmitter by increasing Cl⁻ conductance that inhibits neuronal firing.
GABA activates ionotropic (GABAA) and metabotropic (GABAB) receptors, as well as a third class called GABAC receptors. Both GABAA and GABAC are ligand-gated ion channels but are structurally and functionally distinct.
GABAC receptors mediate rapid inhibitory neurotransmission in the retina. Three human genes—GABRR1, GABRR2, and GABRR3—encode the receptor subunits. GABRR1 and GABRR2 are located on chromosome 6q, while GABRR3 maps to chromosome 3q11–q13.3. These genes share a common ancestor with GABAA receptor subunit genes and diverged early in evolution.
Expression of GABAC receptor subunits is not limited to the retina but is also found in other brain regions, especially those involved in visual processing.
