SLC22A1 유전자는 간, 신장, 장 등 여러 기관에서 발현되는 다기능 유기 양이온 수송체를 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 내인성 소분자 양이온뿐 아니라 다양한 약물 및 환경 독소의 제거에 관여합니다. 해당 유전자는 염색체 6번에 위치한 세 개의 유사 양이온 수송체 유전자 클러스터 중 하나이며, 12개의 막관통 도메인을 포함한 막 단백질입니다. 두 가지 전사 변이체가 알려져 있으며, 긴 형태만이 기능성 수송체를 암호화합니다.
