Product Specific Information

Goats were immunized with purified human alpha-1-antitrypsin derived from serum or plasma. The antibody was purified by antigen affinity chromatography using antigen-coupled agarose beads. Antibody concentration was determined using an extinction coefficient: an absorbance at 280 nm of 1.4 equals 1.0 mg of IgG.

Target Information

Alpha-1-antitrypsin (Alpha-1-AT) is synthesized in the liver and functions as an inhibitor of proteases such as trypsin, elastase, chymotrypsin, collagenase, leucocytic proteases, plasmin, and thrombin, which are released during inflammatory reactions in the lung.
Deficiency of alpha-1-AT can lead to chronic obstructive lung disease (emphysema) and, less frequently, hepatic cirrhosis in infants and respiratory distress in newborns.
Alpha-1-AT levels increase as an acute-phase response to tissue necrosis and inflammation and are elevated in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, bacterial infections, vasculitis, and carcinomatosis.
