Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene binds to a specific DNA sequence upstream of the core promoter and second enhancer of human hepatitis B virus (HBV). Through this binding, it represses HBV core promoter activity, transcription of HBV genes, and production of HBV virions.
The protein shows sequence similarity with other DNA-binding structural proteins such as gallin, MYC family oncoproteins, and MOS. It may also play roles in apoptosis protection and pre-mRNA splicing.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described, with two full-length forms identified.
