Target Information
Caspase 2 gene encodes a protein that belongs to the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family. Sequential activation of caspases plays a key role in the execution phase of cell apoptosis. Caspases exist as inactive proenzymes that undergo proteolytic processing at conserved aspartic residues to form active enzymes composed of large and small subunits. Proteolytic cleavage of Caspase 2 is induced by various apoptotic stimuli. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
