Target Information
Napsin 1 is an aspartic protease predominantly expressed in lung tissue, also found in kidney and metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in healthy pulmonary and renal tissues but is abnormally regulated during carcinogenesis. Evaluation of Napsin is useful for identifying various cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. Combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, Napsin serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma differentiation. It is also associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
