Target Information
Napsin A (also known as Napsin 1) is an aspartic protease primarily expressed in lung tissue, and also found in kidney and metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in normal pulmonary and renal tissues but is abnormally regulated during carcinogenesis. Napsin evaluation is useful in identifying various cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. When combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, Napsin A serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma type differentiation. It has also been associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
