Target Information
Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly in lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissues and thymic epithelial cells and functions as a regulator of lymphatic endothelium morphology.
Podoplanin serves as a ligand for CLEC-2, with expression levels positively correlated to tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. It plays a direct role in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor cell invasion. Podoplanin expression is induced via Src activation of Cas, and recent findings indicate its presence on Th17 cells. Studies have shown podoplanin expression on a small but distinct population of CD4+ cells from human PBMCs. Dysfunction of podoplanin is associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottic neoplasm, and it has been proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological role.
