Target Information
Organic cation transporters (OCT) are expressed in the plasma membrane of epithelial cells from various tissues, functioning in the elimination of endogenous amines, cationic drugs, and other xenobiotics.
OCTs have a 12-transmembrane-domain structure and a large extracellular hydrophilic loop.
- OCT1: Expressed mainly in the liver
- OCT2 (SLC22A2): Expressed in kidney distal and proximal tubules, mediating pH-sensitive tubular uptake of organic compounds
- OCT3: Expressed in placenta, skeletal muscle, prostate, aorta, and liver
An additional splice variant, OCT2-A, also exists for OCT2.
