Product Specific Information

  • Detects endogenous protein at a molecular weight of 225 kDa.
  • Purity >95% by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

The sodium channel protein type 8 subunit alpha (Na⁺ CP type VIII alpha) is a multi-pass transmembrane protein mediating sodium ion permeability of excitable membranes.
Voltage-gated sodium channels consist of:

  • A pore-forming alpha subunit
  • A noncovalently associated beta1 subunit
  • A disulfide-linked beta2 subunit

The beta subunits regulate channel expression, modulate gating, and act as cell adhesion molecules.
Alpha subunits of types I and III are mainly expressed in neuronal cell bodies and proximal processes, while type II alpha subunits are abundant along axons.
Sodium channels are essential for rapid signal transduction and neuronal development.
Defects in the SCN8A gene can impair secondary motoneuron growth, leading to progressive paralysis and early death.
