RGS proteins act as GTPase-activating proteins for Gi (GNAI1; MIM 139310) and Gq (GNAQ; MIM 600998) class G-alpha proteins.
They accelerate the cycle of GTP binding and hydrolysis, thereby enhancing signaling kinetics and termination.
