Target Information
MAOB (Monoamine Oxidase B), also called MAO, BRAIN, or AMINE OXIDASE (FLAVIN-CONTAINING) B, is a protein encoded by the MAOB gene located on Xp11.3.
MAOB catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines and plays a key role in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues.
This enzyme preferentially degrades benzylamine and phenylethylamine and also degrades dopamine.
MAO-B inhibition is associated with enhanced dopamine activity and reduced hydrogen peroxide production, decreasing reactive oxygen species formation.
