Target Information
The protein encoded by the PTPN7 gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This gene is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic cells and acts as an early response gene in lymphokine-stimulated cells.
The noncatalytic N-terminus of this PTP interacts with MAP kinases to suppress their activity. PTPN7 is involved in T cell antigen receptor signaling through dephosphorylation of molecules in the MAP kinase pathway.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
