Target Information
PGP9.5 (Protein Gene Product 9.5, UCH-L1, PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein, structurally and immunologically distinct from neuron-specific enolase. It has a molecular weight of 27 kDa and is a member of the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12).
PGP9.5 exhibits both ubiquitin hydrolase and ligase activities, hydrolyzing small C-terminal adducts of ubiquitin to generate monomers.
It is expressed in neurons, nerve fibers, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, ova, and corpus luteum cells.
Overexpression is associated with non-small cell lung cancer, while decreased expression correlates with Huntington and Alzheimer diseases.
PGP9.5 serves as a neuronal marker and is valuable in neurodegenerative disorder studies, including Parkinson disease.
