Target Information
Desmoglein 3 (Dsg3), also known as Cadherin family member 6 (CDHF6), is a desmosomal cadherin that plays a critical role in cell-cell adhesion. It is predominantly expressed in stratified squamous epithelium such as skin, oral mucosa, and esophagus. Dsg3 is the autoantigen of pemphigus vulgaris (PV), a severe autoimmune disease. Binding of anti-Dsg3 autoantibodies causes loss of cell adhesion, clinically resulting in blisters and histologically in suprabasilar acantholysis.
