Recognizes the Ig loops 2–3 of human CD31.
PECAM-1 is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~130 kDa, depending on glycosylation) constitutively expressed on vascular cells, serving as a useful immunohistochemical marker of blood vessels, especially in angiogenesis. It is also found on platelets, monocytes, neutrophils, CD8+ T cells, bone marrow stem cells, and myeloid/megakaryocytic lineage cells.
PECAM-1 has been detected on human, mouse, and rat solid tumor lines. Studies suggest its role in inflammation and leukocyte-endothelial interaction. PECAM-1 is an early and sensitive marker for tumor-induced angiogenesis and may be involved in angiogenesis during embryonic development and metastasis formation.

Applications Tested: ELISA, Flow Cytometry, Immunoprecipitation, Western Blotting, Monoclonal antibody immobilization of platelet antigens (MAIPA).

Target Information

CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor regulating T and B cell signaling via ITIM motifs that, upon phosphorylation, provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is expressed throughout the vascular system, mainly at junctions between adjacent cells. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions.
CD31 plays diverse roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, negative regulation of immunoreceptor signaling, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis. It is a key regulatory molecule in the vascular system.
