Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor (BAI1)-binding protein. It acts as an adaptor linking membrane-bound G-proteins to cytoplasmic effector proteins and functions as an insulin receptor tyrosine kinase substrate, suggesting a role for insulin in the central nervous system. It associates with Rho small G protein effectors involved in stress fiber formation and cytokinesis, contributing to lamellipodia and filopodia formation in motile cells and neuronal growth-cone guidance. It also interacts with the dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy gene associated with a neurodegenerative disease. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
