Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell proliferation and regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. Deregulated expression of c-Myc can induce apoptosis and is linked to multiple human cancers, including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas.
Translocation of the c-Myc locus on chromosome 8 to immunoglobulin loci on chromosomes 14, 2, or 22 is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative diseases. Aberrant expression of c-Myc occurs in a wide range of tumors from various tissues.
