Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein that mediates calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It plays a key role in morphogenetic movements during development and regulates cell surface adhesion through homotypic cadherin interactions.
Its function depends on association with the actin cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, with stability regulated by β-catenin phosphorylation.
N-cadherin consists of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It is essential during gastrulation and for establishing left-right asymmetry.
