Target Information
Guanylyl cyclases catalyze the production of cGMP from GTP and exist as soluble and membrane forms. The membrane guanylyl cyclases (A–F) are cell-surface receptors with an extracellular ligand-binding domain, a single membrane-spanning domain, and an intracellular region containing a protein kinase-like and a cyclase catalytic domain.
GC-A and GC-B serve as receptors for natriuretic peptides, also known as atrial natriuretic peptide receptor A and type B. NPR1 encodes a membrane-bound guanylyl cyclase that functions as the receptor for both atrial and brain natriuretic peptides.
