Target Information
The protein encoded by ENPP2 acts as both a phosphodiesterase and a phospholipase, catalyzing production of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) in extracellular fluids. LPA induces growth factor-like responses such as stimulation of cell proliferation and chemotaxis. ENPP2 promotes tumor cell motility and angiogenesis, and its expression is upregulated in several carcinomas. The protein is secreted and processed to its biologically active form. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
