Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH participates in DNA replication, DNA repair, nuclear RNA export, membrane fusion, and microtubule bundling. It is implicated in apoptosis, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer-related processes.
Due to its ubiquitous expression and high abundance, GAPDH is widely used as a protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
