Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. It is composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (2 alpha, 2 beta rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells, cleaving peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMA3 gene encodes a member of the peptidase T1A family, a 20S core alpha subunit, with two alternative transcripts producing different isoforms.
