Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is responsible for illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress.
The Spike (S) protein mediates viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody and vaccine development.
The receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the Spike protein binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD.
S1 contains the RBD that specifically binds to ACE2, while S2 mediates membrane fusion. The full-length S protein (1273 amino acids) includes:

• Signal peptide (aa 1–13)
• S1 subunit (aa 14–685)
• S2 subunit (aa 686–1273)

The S-ECD represents the extracellular domain of the Spike protein.
