Target Information
Ephrin B1 is a cell surface transmembrane ligand for Eph receptors, a family of receptor tyrosine kinases essential for migration, repulsion, and adhesion during neuronal, vascular, and epithelial development. It binds promiscuously to Eph receptors on adjacent cells, enabling contact-dependent bidirectional signaling.
- Forward signaling: downstream of the receptor
- Reverse signaling: downstream of the ephrin ligand
Ephrin B1 interacts with EPHA4, EPHA3, and EPHB4. Together with EPHB4, it plays a central role in heart morphogenesis and angiogenesis by regulating cell adhesion and migration. EPHB4-mediated forward signaling controls cellular repulsion and segregation from EFNB2-expressing cells. Ephrin B1 may also contribute to the orientation of longitudinally projecting axons.
