Slug(SNAI2)는 C2H2형 zinc finger 전사인자 Snail 계열의 구성원으로, 상피-간엽 전이(EMT) 및 신경관 형성에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
FGF, BMP, TGF-β 등의 성장인자에 의해 발현이 유도되며, E-cadherin 및 Claudin-1 등의 유전자 전사를 억제합니다.
또한 유방암, 식도암, 대장암 등에서 높은 발현이 예후 불량과 연관되어 있으며, p53 매개 Puma 전사를 억제하여 조혈 전구세포를 방사선 유도 세포사멸로부터 보호하는 역할을 합니다.
