Target Information
The COPE gene encodes the epsilon subunit of the coatomer protein complex. This cytosolic complex binds to dilysine motifs and associates with Golgi non-clathrin-coated vesicles. It is essential for retrograde Golgi-to-ER transport of dilysine-tagged proteins. The coatomer complex consists of alpha, beta, beta’, gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
