Target Information

This gene encodes a thyroid-specific transcription factor that binds to the thyroglobulin promoter and regulates expression of thyroid-specific genes. It also influences genes involved in morphogenesis.
Mutations or deletions are associated with benign hereditary chorea, choreoathetosis, congenital hypothyroidism, and neonatal respiratory distress, and may be linked to thyroid cancer.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
