Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are encoded by two distinct supergene families. Eight distinct classes of soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta, and zeta.
This gene encodes a glutathione S-transferase belonging to the mu class, functioning in detoxification of electrophilic compounds such as carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, and environmental toxins by conjugation with glutathione.
The mu class genes are organized in a cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and are highly polymorphic, influencing susceptibility to toxins and drug efficacy. Null mutations are associated with increased cancer risk due to heightened sensitivity to environmental carcinogens. Multiple protein isoforms arise from transcript variants.
