Target Information
CD26 (dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPP IV; adenosine deaminase (ADA) binding protein) is a homodimeric atypical serine protease belonging to the prolyl oligopeptidase family.
CD26 is expressed on lymphocytes and upregulated during T-cell activation, also found on activated B cells, NK cells, and epithelial tissues.
It plays roles in T-cell activation, cell adhesion to extracellular matrix (fibronectin, collagen), and HIV infection.
CD26 is identical to adenosine deaminase complexing protein-2 and functions as a serine exopeptidase cleaving X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides.
Alterations in CD26 activity are associated with malignant transformation, with enzymatic activity increasing with tumor grade and severity.
Changes in CD26 density have been observed in monocytes and CD4+ T cells during rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
