Target Information
The product encoded by this gene is a laminin belonging to the basement membrane protein family. This beta subunit, together with alpha and gamma subunits, forms laminin-5.
Mutations in this gene cause epidermolysis bullosa junctional Herlitz type and generalized atrophic benign epidermolysis bullosa, both characterized by skin blistering. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
