Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the SWI/SNF family, which regulates transcription by altering chromatin structure. The ARID1A protein is part of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI, required for transcriptional activation of genes repressed by chromatin.
It has two conserved domains:
- DNA-binding domain recognizing AT-rich sequences.
- C-terminal domain that stimulates glucocorticoid receptor-dependent transcriptional activation.
ARID1A confers specificity to the SNF/SWI complex, recruiting it to targets via protein-DNA or protein-protein interactions. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
