Target Information
The EGR2 gene encodes the early growth response 2 protein, a transcription factor that binds to specific DNA regions to regulate gene expression. This protein is critical for the formation and maintenance of myelin, which insulates and protects nerve cells, ensuring efficient nerve impulse transmission.
Mutations in the EGR2 gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease types 1D and 4E, and with Dejerine-Sottas syndrome, a severe early-onset neuropathy.
