Target Information
Interleukin-17A (IL-17A, CTLA-8) is a CD4+ T cell-derived cytokine that promotes inflammatory responses in cell lines and is elevated in rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, and transplant rejection.
IL-17A is a 32 kDa disulfide-linked homodimer consisting of 136 amino acids and belongs to the IL-17 family (IL-17A–IL-17F). It signals through the IL-17 receptor (IL-17R/CDw217) and is produced at high levels by activated peripheral blood CD4+ T-cells.
Human IL-17A enhances ICAM-1 expression in fibroblasts and stimulates epithelial, endothelial, and fibroblastic cells to secrete IL-6, IL-8, G-CSF, and PGE2. It supports proliferation of CD34+ hematopoietic progenitors and promotes maturation into neutrophils.
IL-17A activates NF-κB and MAP kinases, increases IL-6 and COX-2 expression, and enhances nitric oxide production.
